Description

For S/A TB choir, Organ, Violin or Viola. (Originally viola, but well within the range of a violin). Puccini wrote this short Requiem – actually the setting of the antiphon to the Introit of the Mass for the Dead – as a commission for the publisher Giulio Ricordi for the fourth anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi which occurred on 27 January 1905. This anthem-length setting for (basically) three voices can be easily performed by smaller church choirs. The alto part divides but can easily be covered by your sopranos.

Lyrics

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
