Hey, I'm still interested in the first volume!

We're not going to be a part of the "dumbing-down" of children's choir music!
If your children's choir has been singing air-pudding,
maybe it's time you took a new look at your curriculum.
(Or better yet, take a look at ours!)

viva voce

Our NEW Viva Voce! 2010-2011 project is ready!
St. James Music Press' comprehensive teaching curriculum for children’s choirs,
Grades K-2 and 3-6.

CarolWe've been planning this for a few years now, and we found just the person to head up our Viva Voce Project. Carol McClure is an alumna of the University of Louisville, and earned the degree Master of Church Music at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with dual emphases in choral conducting and harp. The breadth of her conducting experience includes service as choral director at Queen's Park Baptist Church in Glasgow, Scotland, Director of Music and Arts at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, Decatur, Georgia, as well as her current work with her children’s choirs at First Presbyterian Church in Nashville. She is nationally known for her compositions and arrangements for children's voices, is highly sought after for her workshops and conferences, and has been working with St. James Music Press for several years.

In addition, Carol serves as Representative of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) for Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

This learning plan is based on our commitment to teaching vocal technique, music skills, hymn-knowledge-y, liturgics, and service in a fun, efficient, memorable and rewarding manner for both the choristers and the directors. For 2010-2011 we have commissioned a set of new anthems from our wonderful composers, all created to capture the imaginations of your choir members.

Our curriculum follows the church-year and contains thirteen Grade 3-6 anthems, an Advent Cantata, and ten Grade K-2 anthems, which also may be used as ‘easy access’ anthems for the Grade 3-6 choir.

What's on the CD-ROM?

10 anthems for K-2 (or easy-access anthems for less experienced singers)
13 more challenging anthems for grades 3-6
An Advent Cantata by English composer Richard Shephard
From God on High - an Advent Service of readings and music
What Wondrous Love - A Lenten Service of readings and music
All instrumental parts included.
Recordings of all the music in mp3 format. You can make CDs and give them to your choir.
Permission to photocopy and record EVERYTHING!
PLUS (and this is crucial!)
A monthly e-newsletter that includes lesson plans for each age group,
warm-ups, ideas, games, rehearsal tips and more!

Our project includes a curriculum plan, but if you just like the anthems, that’s fine, too.
Remember, you’re free to make as many copies of anything on this disk as you like.

A vital part of this curriculum is our monthly email newsletter, (August-April) sent to each Viva Voce subscriber. Each newsletter will contain a teaching overview, teaching points, vocal warm-ups for the specific anthems reinforcing the melodic and harmonic material, songs and games to help students learn hymns, music history, liturgics, aural and singing skills, music reading and general musicianship. You'll sign up as soon as you receive your CD-ROM.

And, by the way, here are two FREE Children's anthems that you'll enjoying introducing to your choristers.

A note from Carol —

Welcome to the SJMP Viva Voce project! As we launch the second year of Viva Voce, I am enjoying the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians 2010 Region 2 Conference in Jacksonville, sharing ideas from Viva Voce here in sunny Florida.

Our August Viva Voce e-newsletter (which you'll receive when you sign up) includes games/activities for use at a choir kick-off or in rehearsals. These games/ activities cover note recognition and reviews of terms and symbols we introduced last year, and may be used and re-used throughout the choir year.

Each subsequent month’s newsletter will include anthem overviews, vocal warm-ups, and teaching ideas. Some of the pages of each newsletter are addressed to and intended for you, the director; others contain games and puzzles for choristers, to reinforce the music teaching you are providing. Please remember that the curriculum content is resource material from which you may draw each month; Viva Voce is intended in its design to continue to be flexible and easily adaptable to your church’s needs.

I look forward to hearing from more of you this year, getting to know about you and your specific needs for children’s choir resources. Please e-mail me here.

I hope you enjoy using this resource as much as I’ve enjoyed assembling our first two years of Viva Voce.
