Description

Who doesn't like brass with their hymns? Well, some folks we guess, but we don't speak of them here... (Hey, Ethel! Are those trumpets playing again? I'm going over to the Quaker Church where I can get some peace and quiet!") Anyway, here are some arrangements and descants that really work  - whether you have a full compliment of instruments, or maybe just an itinerant trombone player.

Brass quartet with Optional Horn in F - All parts are included on two pages (per hymn). The horn parts are in the EXTRAS (ZIP) file.

  • C Descant
  • Bb Descant
  • Bb Trumpet Parts (Soprano and Alto lines)
  • Trombone Countermelody
  • Organ/Trombone Parts
  • Opt. Horn Parts (Alto, Tenor, and Countermelody)

  • Dix (As With Gladness, Men of Old)
Dundee (The People Who In Darkness Walked)
Puer Nobis (What Star Is This?)
Stuttgart (Earth Has Many a Noble City)
Three Kings of Orient (We Three Kings)
Wareham (O Wondrous Type, O Vision Fair)
Wie Schön Leuchtet (How Brightly Shines the Morning Star)

Note: Salzburg (Songs of Thankfulness and Praise) can be found in the
Easter Collection (13 Easter Hymns Made Fancy)

    Suggested use

Introduction: organ or brass or both
Verse One: 4 part brass and organ (SATB)
Verse Two: organ + trombone or horn countermelody
Verse Three: organ alone or with descant or brass alone
Verse Four: organ, descant + STB brass
            OR descant + countermelody +SB
OR everything, if you have enough players.

Or, whatever you like! There are plenty of options and all parts work together. Recording: One verse - All parts together.
The recording is a MIDI version. We know it. It's just so you can hear how it sounds. Don't send us any nasty emails! We mean it...
