SAB (or unison) and organ.
Notes: This short reflective anthem for SA and Men can also be performed by unison voices. It is worth practicing the alto and bass line together to achieve good ensemble. It is important to keep a sustained line whilst making sure the words are clear. Try to make a contrast between the words ‘life’ in bar 10 and ‘death’ in bar 12. The changing time signature is there to add expression and emphasis to certain words. Do not let it be a stumbling block and encourage singers to sing through the lines.
Bread of the world, in mercy broken,
Wine of the soul, in mercy shed,
By Whom the words of life were spoken,
And in Whose death our sins are dead.
Look on the heart by sorrow broken,
Look on the tears by sinners shed;
And be Thy feast to us the token,
That by Thy grace our souls are fed.
