This gentle anthem is appropriate and easy to prepare for Lent/Holy Week or for a Communion service. If sung in parts, opportunities for tuning thirds and sixths abound.

Anthem Warm-Up

  • bars 13-16: intervallic tuning

Teaching Points

  • Melodic Singing/Interpretation: Singing with dynamics; shaping phrases
  • Intervallic Tuning: Tuning melodic ascending lines; tuning intervals between parts
  • Music History: Learning about Theodore DuBois and the composers of the Paris Conservatory
  • Music History/Style Exploration: Listening to/watching performances of the rest of DuBois’ The Seven Last Words of Christ on You Tube, DVD or CD

Christ, we do all adore thee,
And we do praise thee for ever,
Who on the cruel cross
Hast thou the world from sin redeemed.
