Description

An old traditional Appalachian carol, arranged for two-part (treble) choir and piano. Haunting and beautiful.

Down in yon forest stands a hall,
Sing May, Queen May, sing Mary!
'Tis dark and dim since Adam's fall,
Sing all good folk for the new-born baby!

And in that hall there stands a bed,
Sing May, Queen May, sing Mary!
It's covered over with scarlet so red,
Sing all good folk for the new-born baby!

And at the bed's foot there grows a thorn,
Sing May, Queen May, sing Mary!
Which ever blooms since he was born,
Sing all good folk for the new-born baby!

And at the bed there lies a stone,
Sing May, Queen May, sing Mary!
Placed there for sinners to atone,
Sing all good folk for the new-born baby!

Over that bed the moon shines bright,
Sing May, Queen May, sing Mary!
To greet our Savior born this night,
Sing all good folk for the new-born baby!
