Description

Gary Lewis holds a BMusEd from UW-Oshkosh and MChurchMus from Northwestern University. Among his teachers are James Kohn – piano, Arthur Poister and Wolfgang Rübsam – organ and Margaret Hillis – conducting. While in the military, he served in the bands and conducted the 5th US Army Chorus and the US Continental Army Chorus. He served just two churches Virginia and Wisconsin as Director of Music and Organist over 38 years to date. While in Virginia, he also became conductor of the 90-voice Virginia Choral Society for eight seasons and prepared choruses for the Virginia Symphony. He is currently the Director of Music and Organist for Bethel Lutheran Church, Madison, Wisconsin, a 6,000-member ELCA church. He has worked with the Madison Symphony Orchestra on several concerts and recitals involving choirs and the new Klais concert organ, and he serves on the Executive Board of the Friends of the Overture Concert Organ. Gary believes strongly in music as one of the finest tools to teach faith to all ages.
