Description

Jim Stanley majored in clarinet and composition major at the University of Southern California. His first choral experience came about by literally having his arm twisted to sing tenor on the way to a student choral concert. That experience led to a position as tenor section leader at All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, ending up at his position as choirmaster and cantor (now retired) at Church of the Angels in Pasadena, CA. While at USC, Jim studied clarinet with Mitchell Lurie and composition with Morten Lauridsen, Humphrey Searle, and William Kraft. He is still active as a clarinetist in the Los Angeles area, and currently composes for band and chorus in addition to his choirmaster duties.
