Teaching Overview

Praise the Lord for Spring is an anthem for the conclusion of the choir year. Robert Powell’s memorable refrain is sung easily by both choir and congregation. The greatest challenge for the choir is the memorizing of the three verses. Use rhythmic chant warm-ups with pictures as they learn the text. Use descending fourths and fifths (m. 4, m. 14), as well as “Praise the Lord” (la-ti-do in m.16-17), as warm-ups for this anthem.

Lyrics

Praise the Lord for the beauty, praise the Lord for the joy, praise the Lord for the wonder of spring!
Praise the Lord for the beauty of spring, for fluttering butterflies, for cloudless clear blue skies, for bluebirds on the wing: praise the Lord for the beauty of spring!
Praise the Lord for the joy of spring, for April's gentle showers, for brightly colored flowers, for every living thing: praise the Lord for the joy of spring!
Praise the Lord for the wonder of spring, on land and sea and air, creation's everywhere, together wants to sing: praise the Lord for the wonder of spring!
