Description

SATB and Organ. Text by George W. Douglas (from a sermon by John Henry Newman). Perfect for evening services or funerals and although, in many sources, this prayer is designated for use in the evening, it can clearly be utilized in the morning or afternoon as well, asking for God's support during and at the close of the day before us. Close, delicious harmonies, but not too difficult.

O Lord, support us all the day long,
Until the shadows lengthen
and the evening comes,
and the busy world is hush’d,
and the fever of life is over,
and our work is done.
Then in thy mercy
grant us safe lodging and a holy rest,
and peace at the last.
Amen.
