Composer Francis Jackson

Francis Jackson - Small Photo
b. 1917

English organist and composer. Studied under Bairstow at York and succeeded him as the organist at Yorkminster in 1946 where he remained until 1983. Like Bairstow, he has had a considerable influence on the musical life of Yorkshire. His reputation has been more as a player than a composer, but he has written a considerable amount of church music and serves as editor for a number of church music series.
