Description

An English composer and organist, for many years the Organist and Master of the Choristers at both Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. His pupils included William Croft, Jeremiah Clarke and Henry Purcell. He composed some of the earliest surviving English music for organ attributable to a specific composer, as well as solo songs, a substantial number of church anthems, and a single work for the stage, the Masque Venus and Adonis.
