Description
Sir John Stainer was a Victorian-era English composer, music scholar, and organist. He studied at Oxford, later returning as professor of music. He also served as organist and choirmaster at St. Paul's Cathedral (1872-88), and he wrote music for the church service, cantatas, and two oratorios, one of which, The Crucifixion (1887), is still occasionally performed.
