From the time she was a tyke, Martha Burford loved to hear congregations sing. She sang at St. Catherine’s School, Richmond, and along came mentors such as Ray Glover, William Wells, and Grant Hellmers who taught her what it means to be a "music minister." A music major at Duke, she continued graduate studies at Duke Divinity School and VCU. She is currently Director of Music at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, Richmond; founding Director of Impromptu a capella ensemble; and recently retired Chair of English, Orchard House School. She has taught with the Leadership Program for Musicians and serves on the Commission on Liturgy and Church Music in VIrginia.
