Description

SATB, organ, congregation. Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus/Benedictus, Acclamations, Agnus Dei. Contemporary English texts.  Syncopated rhythms.

Notes: This terrific mass setting will be warmly welcomed by parishes wanting a straight-forward and singable Communion setting. Start by singing it in unison then adding the harmony and descants once the congregation have learnt the tune. Always give the congregation the music as even people who do not read music like to know whether it goes up or down. The composer has marked the Gloria ‘steadily’- it should never rush as this will weaken the syncopated rhythms. The central section between bars 17-32 could be more legato than the outer sections. After a while, the Agnus Dei could be sung unaccompanied, sometimes with the choir alone and at other times with the congregation.
